Just like any other living organism, yes we as in *(all of us) have a basic idea. However, it largely depends on the species. But in all respect, I personally believe all living creatures know, when the clock is about to stop.

Usually, yes they do. Some will wander away to die if they can. Cats will do this I know. If the animal is suffering, put it out of it's misery soon. You an tell if it is. Vet don't charge that much foir euthenasia.

if you've worked around all kinds of animals for long enough, you will find all the proof you need. whether its in a horse stable and a horse is dying, to the consternation of his stable mates, a dog or cat trying to find a hole as a final resting place before they die, or whether its a pet of yours that frantically squeaks for his last cuddle, there are simply too many examples you would find. animals can smell death even as its happening.

I believe they may. My buddy's Beagal kept trying to wander down to the swamp where she hunted rabbits most of the time. We found her half way there when she did die. She also didn't try to leave until all the family came and said Goodbye.

I definitely believe cats do. My cats tend to come to me when they are about to die. Most have died in my arms.
Other cats know when another is dying too. Usually if another cat is dying the rest will stay away from it.
Even when kittens are born, the mother will ignore a kitten if she thinks it's sick.

I think they do. When my 13 year old shih-tzu was dying, she was outside. All the stray cats surrounded her and birds and squirrels were hovering around. She died right there and the cats kind of nuzzled her. It was very touching and an awesome moment to witness.

Yes, I think they do. They also know when some one is dying. Our Golden walked around my fathers bed the day he died and went in the bedroom and stayed there until he died later that day. She still to this day has not been the same dog. She really didn't even know him... strange

well not like when they're born, but i think if they get hurt, they know how serious it is, and whether they will die.
