Absolutely safe, so long as you don't do the same things that would get you thrown in jail in the USA. I lived in another part of Mexico for 10 years and never had problems. I've visited Cancun a half dozen times. You'll have a wonderful trip. Be sure to take the bus (or other transportation) to Xel-Ha and Tulum. Buen viaje.

We went last spring, and I found it to be a safe, friendly place, even in the city. I took my 10 year old on the local buses to town for shopping and we had no problems, even at night.

I'm sure that when the heavy partyers get out of hand and people get hurt or too stoned, Senior Frogs has to call in the police. That's probably WHY it is so safe.

As a city which survives on tourist dollars, the Mexicans are not interested in scaring people away. Rather, they want to make it comfortable for everyone so that they will want to come back and bring their friends. So families can enjoy the beaches and antiquity, while the singles can drink and party with the best of them.

I recommended it so highly that my sister and her family are going next month.

It's very safe in Mexico, Just respect the country and culture. They arrest people that are intoxicated in public, just like they would here. Just don't be one of those obnoxious people that go there and think they can do whatever they want, just because it is a third world country. I've been there and the people love to talk to you and almost everyone speaks English!

It is safe, no different than any other big tourist town. Just follow the current news for mexico before and when you go, just to be aware of anything new that's going on.
