I know that Double Dutch, the one where there are two ropes going in opposite directions and and a jumper goes inside and jumps while doing simple gymnastic moves, is a sport and contested all over the world. This is a team effort. Single jump rope I do not know, but it is a great exercise.

Only if you are competing against someone else who is also jump roping. Like whoever jumps rope the longest without stopping wins. That would make jump roping a sport. Otherwise it's just a piece of exercise equipment like a treadmill.

It could be considered a sport but it's more of a work out.

Try it. It's a great cardio exercise that tones the legs, arms, and it makes the person FEEL like they have just run a mile (when it only takes about 8 min to do it).

A sport is an athletic activity requiring physical prowess. It doesn't require competition.
