First go watch (Old footage of Charles Barkley):

Barkley was known to show up for training camps out of shape and he was still pretty damn good. Had he followed a strict workout regimen as most players do today would he have been one of the top 5 or top 10 players of all time?

coach knight cut him from the US team as a collegian out of Auburn...at 6'4 charles often played against much bigger centers in his day and more than held his own, he was a smart rebounder who also had good hops when young , handled the ball ok and ended up with a lot of rebounds, a couple of thousand more than dennis rodman, one of the premier rebounders thru the 80s and early 90s

See i grew up in the late 80's and by the time i liked basketball all those guys were gone. But dont get me wrong the talent in this years nba isnt that easy either. You got guys like carter, mcgrady, bron, howard, boozer, bryant, josh smith, stadamire. I know the guys were alot better then but im just saying its no washup now a days either. I think guys nowadays are more creative and athletic but the guys before really knew how to play the game which is a huge advantage. Now adays you come into the whole and you get rejected but back then they would block the shot and put you on your back. But anyways back to your question i think that everyone has their own game, jason kid is a beast at passing, while duncan is a force down low. I belief the time lebron is done with his career he will be the best basketball player to ever step on the court

Not sure if being in better shape would have helped or hurt Barkley as a 6 foot 4 power forward he used his wide body to help him get and maintain position and was used as an assett

A top 2 power forward of all time with Karl Malone

already, as it stands, Sir Charles is one of the top greats of the game. If he bothered to keep up his shape and not become wider, he would have dominated much more and carried the Sixers or the Suns to a championship. Definitely he would be up in the top 10 and not in the top 50 as he is now.

Charles weighed 300 pounds when he cam out of Auburn into the NBA. He got his weight down considerably and kept it there throughout his career.

Charles was something special for a guy his size.

Yes, as a 6'4 PF, he was great. Especially if you realize that most PG and SG were that height or taller. Imagine what he would have done if he was taller? If he would have been 6'8, arguably could have been right there with MJ as the all-time greatest.
