we were signing up for classes for next year in highschool and i wanted to take this medical class, well my mom was just like oh i dont think you need to take that because your not going to do anything in the medical career and i told her that i was really interested in it and she said no you should just take the business accounting classes because thats what all your family does and you wont make it into any medical career and you wont be interested in it. im really smart and i have a 4.0 gpa but my mom is just crushing my dreams and is all like you should just take the accounting and if i do take the medical classes then she isnt going to help me any by taking me to the hospital or anything. it makes me so mad because im not interested in that! im sorry this is so long but yeah i just wanted some opinions. thanks!

This is the time to start standing for your own life. How can she KNOW that a medical career is not what's inside you, and accounting is what is??? I bet if you really want to, you can find someone to take you places. I was the one that supported my stepkids in things their mom could not be bothered to do, and took the oldest and her friend to get condoms and made sure she knew how to use them. For worthy causes people will want to help you - maybe the parent of a trusted friend. Taking you to look into a job or school prospect is not something that would cause a rift that could not be talked over.

If you are really interested in this, don't give up. Find out more about it & make an informed decision.
This web-site shows some interesting info about the fastest growing occupations;

Look how many are in medical fields. How many accountants?
Talk to your school counselor or teachers you know about the issue. You might also check for colleges with programs in the medical field and see what the requirements are like. Do some research on-line. Also, when talking to your counselors, explain how your Mom is not supportive of the class & if any hospital field trips are required - can other arrangements be made.
If you really want this & need to have another discussion with your mother, have the facts to back up your decision. If she still won't back you, but won't stop you from taking the class - Take the Class! Your school or classmates should be able to help with transportation or just bring home a map of bus routes and tell your mom your going to buy a bus pass. She may still come around once she sees how far you'll go to make it happen.
I have to say, I don't like your Mom's response. She may think she has your best interests in mind, but she's only pushing you away and not doing you any favors by not at least helping you explore your career options.
This could have been an easy, no stress exploration of your career options & she's turned it into a fight. There are better and more productive ways to spend ones time & nurture a relationship with your child.
Good Luck!

Go for it. YOU got a dream. Moms (as nice as moms are) dont want their babies to grow up. And for you to make a decision that goes against what mom wants takes a lot of guts. You seem like you got guts to me. So do what your heart says, if it doesnt work out you can always do accounting. There are a multitude of very good paying medical positions everywhere. LIVE YOUR DREAM.
Mom should understand that you got to want it or it means nothing (to you). GOOD LUCK

Hold onto your dreams. You might be able to make them into reality. You're obviously not only smart, but also a hard worker to have a 4.0 gpa. In a few years, you'll be able to choose how to live your own life.
Hang in there, and don't get discouraged.
Good luck.

sit down and talk to your mom and tell her exactly how you feel . follow your dreams go for it. and you will find a ride to the hospital or any other thing that you have to attend. keep a positive attitude. prove to your mom that you can do it in the medical career. and that is your dreams and you are going to do it. you have to do what you want to do in life not what others want you to do, or you won't be happy you will be living their dreams and not yours. good luck.

accountants make like 24k a year starting if they are lucky.
nurses make over 45k a year starting, good nurses make over 80k a year.
accountants that work for selfselves rarely make that much.
plus you can continue your education and become a doctor.
the biggest thing you need to get into med school is your grades so I say go into the medical field.
