If you make $10 per hour, then divide $10 by 60 (60 minutes in an hour). Advice: Most of the time you use multiplication to find out a part of a whole, but you sometimes use division to find out the whole. Happy 2 help! :-)

If you make $10 an hour, what you actually make depends on what taxes you're liable for at the end of the year, deductions and so forth. In general, you can count on netting about 60% after taxes. So you'll actually be making 60% of 1/60th of $10, or ten cents a minute.

Formulas come from the minds of humans. They don't just appear out of the ether. First ask yourself if a person making $10/hour is making more or less than $10/minute. If she was making $10 per minute wouldn't she be making $600 per hour? After all, there are 60 minutes in an hour, right? So, she must be making less than $10/minute. How much less? That's for you to figure out.

$10 per hour = $10 every 60 min or 10/60 = 1/6 dollars per minute.
1/6 dollars = 100 pennies / 6 = 16.7 cents per minute.
