My friend told me she thinks he is because otherwise Dumbledore wouldn't trust him, but I don't think he is. Do you?

It's a popular premise in fanfiction, and makes for an interesting story, but no, James Potter is Harry Potter's father in the books.
Dumbledore very likely has a lot of reasons for trusting Snape that we aren't yet privy to, and "because he's Harry's father" would be a very bad one if it were true. Dumbledore is smarter than that.

Dumbledore trusts him because 1) He is a hogwart's teacher 2) He WAS a death eater and continues to to get info. for the rest of the Wizard world. 3) Dumbledore gives everyone a chance, thats how he didn't figure out that Snape was still a death eater. Plus, it said in one of the books that Harry's dad and his godfather, Sirius made fun of Snape while the were younger & @ hogwarts. Also, Snape is mean to Harry and tries to get him expelled. According to me Snape CANNOT be James Potter. ( unless he turned bad all of a sudden) Hope this answers you q.

Darn. I wish I knew where a list of severitus challenge fics was.
There was a fanfic writer. This writer's penname was severitus They wrote the first severus as harry's father fanfiction that I'd ever seen. this fanfic writer issued a challenge. They wanted to see what other people would make of Severus as Harry's father. Also known as the severitus challenge.
These are one of my favorites. while this has become a very prevailing theme in Harry Potter fanfiction I do not think that Severus could ever be Harry's father.
I will not link to the story, because it is not fit for general consumption.(rated M=for mature) But if you want to look for it it's called A Father's Sin.

Why would anyone think that it is clearly stated that Harry potters father is James potter, there has never been any kind of inkling that snape could be harry's father.

If this was the case, I would believe Harry was one of the two characters destined to die in this last book. I mean, how would he handle this?
He probably has some odd connection, but surely not his papa. I still wonder about Harry's aunt. I thought she was supposed to have some surprises up her sleeve.
