He's a bit big, but nothing to be concerned about. Kids need some chubs, that fuels their brain devolpment and physical needs. My friend's son was 35 lbs when he was a year, and he grew up to be over 6 feet and about 200 lbs. Plus, babies have the most growth spurts in the first sixth months of life, then they start to taper off. If your doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't worry as much( I know all mothers worry), it'll be alright. Good luck!

Yes that is overweight, especially because I doubt he has the length yet to support that weight. My daughter is 2 1/2 and weighs 35 lbs and 38 inches tall... she is in the 95% range so she has a risk of becoming overweight. I would try to limit snacks, water down juice... no table foods (at 5 months there's not much of a need for more than cereal, formula and some fruits or veggies)!!!! Good luck, it's early yet so you can reverse this problem now.

You have to ask yourself this.. How long is your baby? My son was born 7lbs but he is now a week from his one year birthday and is about 30 lbs but he is well over three feet tall which is long for a one year old. So what im saying is if the doctor says hes fine i wouldnt worry too much about it. Just keep doing what your doing it will all fan out when he/she gets into adult foods. The percentage that the doctor gives you when you go to visit should give you some reasurrence as well.

My first thought was that it was allot, but you did not give enough details. My daughter is 4 and 40 lbs and came from uh, larger stock, if you know what I mean. I would get a second opinion for sure. And just in case, do not give your baby cereal in a bottle, many swear by it, but it is a known cause of obesity.

Is he/she breastfed? If so this is perfectly normal. Lots of breastfed kids gain weight rather quickly only to thin out once they start moving (which obviously he/she is doing little of at 5 months). At 5 months a baby shouldn't be eating/drinking anything other then breastmilk/formula so you can't overfeed them. Not to mention breastmilk and formula actually have MORE calories then any solid food. So honestly I wouldn't worry at all. It's really not unheard of.

You need to look at height vs weight not weight vs age.
My son was 20lbs at 4 months but he was also tall.

It depends more upon proportion than weight. How long is the baby? As long as the weight is proportionate to your babies length your baby is fine.
