Your best bet is campgrounds or state parks as far as affordability. Otherwise, some of the surrounding towns have better prices on motels, staying in the Dell's can be rather pricey. As far as places to go, there's way too many to list but here are some of my favorites. Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum (located downtown), Noah's Ark, any of the go kart tracks and of course, you can't forget the Original Wisconsin Ducks. There is a casino a few miles outside of the Dells and if you have the time, Baraboo has the Barnum and Bailey's Circus Museum. There are also numerous state parks there if you enjoy hiking. My favorite is Devil's Lake just outside of Baraboo.

Depending on what time of year you go, Noah's Ark is a really fun water park to go to. But can only go there during the summer. They have a crap load of things to do in Wisconsin Dell's. Tommy Bartlett's Robot World. Lodging in Wisconsin Dell's is pretty expensive but you could stay in a neighboring town like Baraboo. We always stayed in Baraboo or at a campground.

1st question back to you, what time of year do you plan to go?
80% of the attractions are only open from memorial day to labor day
next question only adults or do you have children and how old are they?
there are 4 very good indoor water parks up here, my favorites listed in order are
Kalahari
the wilderness
chula vista
great wolf
but i am a very active 43 yr old and my sons are 16 & 13
if you have children say ages 7 and younger i would answer differently
the web site listed above dells.com is a great resource

You'll definitely want to go somewhere that has indoor waterparks. Treasure Island is a great one. Also, I was just recently at Chula Vista.. hence it's low hotel prices :) but when I was there they were building a huge waterpark..I believe it was outdoor though. Their indoor one was just basically a pool. Lots of people I know went to Kalahari and enjoyed it immensly. It depends what you're looking for.

The Kalahari is really fun for the kids, but it is kind of expensive. You should definately go on the ducks. Where to go really isn't a problem, when you get there you will see lots of things to do. Too much planning will get you nowhere. Especially with little kids.(assuming you have children).

Well my sweet Venus if we are going to walk forward I sure would like to be able to see where I'm going rather than where I've been . Our eyes are in the front because that's the way our skull is shaped silly . I would also like to be able to see what I'm eating as well .
