Take off your shoes and socks. Roll out about 1000 eggs and top toe gingerly over them while whispering your opinion. Be sure and preface all your remarks by saying "I do not mean to offend anyone. This is just my opinion and it's not necessarily true...." When you are finished, tell the other person, "Well. I just put in my 2 cents here. I'd really like to know what YOU think. My opinion isn't important at all."

Don't express your opinion in a judgmental way. Give the person(s) that you are talking to time to express their own opinion. Think of ways to express your opinion without belittling the opinions of others. Make it clear that you are only expressing your opinion, and not an absolute truth.

You can say whatever you like as kindly, submissively, politely--whatever!--as possible, and you may still be perceived as controlling because it's a THEM problem, not a YOU problem.

Most of us know the conventions for expressing your opinion politely. Use them. If someone still accuses you of being controlling, bummer. Nothing you can do about it. Just say you're sorry, but that's your opinion.

I thnk it depends on the person you are talking to. If this is a loved one then you know your only trying to help them because you love them. I think you should tell what you think and then leave it to the other person to think it through. If you speak in a kind way it will be easier for the other person not to assume your controlling them. Just be honest without demanding for them to see things your way and they may walk away and think it over with out you trying to convince them of anything. Control happens when we try to convince others that our way is right and we are only going to help them if they listen to us. If somone is mad because you didn't take their advice, then that is a sure sign of a control freak.

I don't speak it as though it is the truth or telling someone what to do. I say "This is just my opinion__________________. You should do what you think is best." or like that.
