make 4 bins:
KEEP for everything you cannot get rid of,
DONATE/SELL for things that you don't want in good condition,
TRASH for things in a bad condition,
MAYBE for those of which you're not 100% positive.
after you're done, go through the maybe bin, and decide for sure. rule of thumb: if you haven't used it for 6 months, trash it.

Just remember if something is broken or is no longer used or liked, donate it. That will eliminate a lot of clutter! Also you could try putting your son's bed on bed risers, if able, and put storage under his bed. Another thing you need to remember is when working with small spaces go up, vertical space is the best way to go. That way you still have room to walk, and in this case room for baby. I've added some links to helpful information. Good Luck and Congrats on the addition!

My sister-in-law had this problem too. She took the doors off the closet and used colorful crates to create more storage space. The bottom crates had drawers and were used for toy storage. The top crates for clothing instead of dressers and drawers. She added shelving on the walls and put tubs of toys there too. These tubs were too high for the children to get to on their own. She used them for toys with many little pieces. That way, she could supervise more while the youngest was small and could insist that one tub be full and ready to put away before the next tub came down.

I even have totes that i take advantage of to save assorted countless issues... My crocheting fabric in one, my paintings factors in yet another, etc... lots of those may well be saved on the floor of closets, or on cabinets, or perhaps below beds. I orgainize my linen closet with the stuff i do no longer use generally on the precise and backside cabinets... and the linen and towels etc on the middle cabinets interior undemanding attain. In my bathing room, I shrink out of the wall, between the joists, and placed 2 little "closets" there, one basically huge sufficient for a roll of loo paper, and intense sufficient for 8 rolls, and one approximately 12" huge and four' intense for my different bathing room stuff... with cabinets in that one.. Yea! I did it myself lol... I actually have a type of over the lavatory shelf orgainizers... the single with the two sliding doorways. quite a few pals have suggested i develop into the main orgainized guy or woman interior the worldwide ROFLH... I actually have a place for each little thing... and each little thing is in its place... lol Lemon juice will clean very almost each little thing... that chemical compounds should not be used on... plus that is "a green cleanser". I shop programs of those scrubbing sponges (that are washer-friendly via the way) interior the washing room and kitchen, and one or 2 in a (cleansing factors) drawer in another room. Edit: I additionally do a "deep cleansing" as quickly as a week like on the flooring and partitions. yet every day, I do one room. does not take as long, and helps me shop the abode prepared. you additionally can use those black rubbish bags for storing clothing away... What I do is placed the clothing into the bag, then pull the binds til very almost closed... then take the hose of my vacuum and suck out the air... This flattens the bag and that i will save greater interior the totes! ultimate desires!

Preparation
Turn off electronics like the TV or computer, unless you are going to use your computer to listen to music. Sign off from your Instant Messaging. Don't take time to put up an "away message". These things can be major pitfalls.
Put on an album and sing along. Turn it up loud so you are not thinking of anything else. Make a game of seeing how much you can get cleaned up during one song.
Move anything that is large and in the way. You will have more room, and your room will seem cleaner already!
Cleaning
Go around the room and gather up all of the trash and throw it away. A garbage bag in the room can help. After you get all of the trash, just throw the trash bag away.
Take all of your dirty dishes to the kitchen. Note: you shouldn't have any dishes in your room in the first place...
Go around your room again and pick up all of your laundry. Fold or hang your clean clothes and put them away, while throwing the dirty ones in the laundry basket. Also, try on every single item of clothing. If it doesn't fit you, give it to charity, as long as it's not dirty or torn.
Make your bed and change the sheets, if necessary. An unmade bed will make any room look messy by itself.
Stack your books and magazines neatly, even if they're on the floor. Everything has its place - don't just shove everything under the bed and call it a day.
Clean your book shelf if necessary. Dust the books with a feather duster.
Clean up your desk dust. Even a simple dusting can make your desk look more inviting to sit at again.
Mop or vacuum the floor. Believe it or not, even if the floor isn't too dirty, it can make your room look even messier.
Wipe all surfaces with a wet cloth. Use a duster and polish to make them shine! Also, clean up dust behind your bed, as it collects there the most. If you have a ceiling fan, dust it thoroughly with a damp cloth and Pledge. Turn it on, too (but not when you're dusting it). You will work up a sweat.
Organize your closets and drawers... throw out the crap you don't need. Don't be a pack rat. get rid of alot of stuff.
Close all bureau drawers; make sure nothing is sticking out.
Close all closet doors.
Spray some air freshener.
Reward yourself when you are done with something that you enjoy.
Tips
If there's anything you can't find a place to put, put it on your bed and you can put it away when you've cleaned everything else.
Before starting to clean the room, make sure you're not hungry. Food can become a distraction while working and make the cleaning process longer.
If there is a really big mess to clean up, try tackling one corner at a time. If you only focus on one thing at a time, it makes a big mess seem easier.
Get a big box to put things in from a certain area. It makes the room look cleaner and lets you go through things easier when you are ready.
Play a game to make it more fun. For example:
Lava!: The floor is lava and the only way to win is to not touch it. While you are trying to survive, you pick stuff up so that the other players get eliminated. Once eliminated, you can pick up 10 items to get back into the game! No one can push one another or touch them in any way. You must put away everything you pick up. The game ends when there is nothing left to pick up. Note: this does not work unless everyone wants to play.
Basketball: Shoot garbage into the garbage can or dirty clothes into the hamper.
Aliens!: Pretend that mutant aliens are coming and if the room is not clean in (insert time) you are doomed.
For motivation, take everything in your room that you need to put away, and and put it in a big pile in the middle of your room. When stuff is all over the room it is easy to avoid, but when it's all right there in the middle, it is almost impossible to leave it there.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, remind yourself that you will be happier with a cleaner room. It will look better and you will be able to find objects faster. A bright, clean room is more enjoyable to be in, and it doesn't smell bad.
Take a short break if you have to. You could make it 10 minutes for every hour, or 2 minutes for every 10 minutes. Just don't get distracted on your break!
If you keep your room clean (e.g. put dirty clothes in the hamper at the end of the day, put away a book when done reading, etc.), you won't have to clean as often.
Keep a laundry basket or hamper in your room so you won't be tempted to let dirty laundry pile up on the floor.
If you have things that need to be put in another room, grab a laundry basket and put those items in there. When your done you go and put them in their place. Individually taking the items to their spot is a big time waster.
Warnings
Remember, always look out for sharp objects and put them somewhere you are not going to step on them!
If you have allergies, take your regular allergy medication just before you start, or wear a dust mask.
No matter how boring it gets, keep cleaning. If you stop, you will probably not want to start cleaning again. You can grab something to eat or drink, or go to the toilet; just make sure you get straight back into the cleaning.
Things You'll Need
A garbage bag
A couple of hours
A good CD or favorite radio station

use crates that are stackable so you can use space upward and save floor space, throw out anything that is worn out or broken or never played with, try to find things that can multitask as holders for toys and utilize the surfaces.

Separate what you want to keep from what you don't want to keep. Then once that's done, just think where the things you want to keep will be most practical!
*Get some people to help you out, that way it won't take as long.
