Heavy metal is basically just an off-shoot of rock. Heavy metal roots are traced back to rock. Rock covers a wide area of music and the term is used loosely. You can call heavy metal rock, but rock is not heavy metal.

i know i am gonna get a lot of thumbs down on this, but there is no point in you question. You are going to get ALL opinions from other people. To me, it sounds like you HAVE to pick from the either rock or heavy metal. You should state your question like this:'Which is better heavy metal or rock? just wondering?'

Rock is better, heavy metal is not my thing. I like to still hear and understand the lyrics. Heavy Metal is sometimes difficult to understand.
