No. He signed with the Yankees organization right out of high school and stayed with them until he retired in 1968. Elected to Cooperstown in 1973. Died August 13, 1995.

Back in those days they signed most of the talent out of High School. Offering those kids a $1000.00 contract was like todays millions.

no, why do u ask? a better question would be how many MLB players?% went to college, finished w/degree vs those didnt w/ H.S. diploma n/or didnt even make it thru High School and/or are in the Hall of Fame today! Anyone..go for it???

None to my knowledge, I knew him years ago when he was with the Yankees and i believe he said he started his baseball career as soon as he finished highschool.
