The state would have you prosecuted. This is definitely an ethical dilemma, its always wrong to steal. But survival is a natural human instinct, so you do what you can to survive.

If you are really truly starving and you do not take the food away from another starving person, then I believe it may not really be a sin. It is against the law, so hopefully you would be in a nice civilized country that would send you to jail for a few days, and feed you well there before releasing you.

stealing is stealing. If you are starving I am sure that someone or some church would help you. heck even the department of agriculture gives out food stamps. No need to steal food in this country (USA) at least not yet.

i believe if a person does something that is considered wrong, he is judged by his motives and what is in his heart.

man judges based on laws created to protect the community....but God judges based on what is in a person's heart and soul.

do i think it is wrong to steal food if you are starving? it may be deemed morally wrong, but not ethically wrong...at least, i do not believe so. it is man's nature to survive and instincts will prevail this starving person to steal for survival.

would you think a mother is wrong to steal food to feed her children? instinct will make her protect her offspring's above all else. therefore, in situations like this, most courts will give leniency for such crimes...
