More history needed- smoker or non-smoker would be my first question. Duration of symptom, Past History and general health-other symptoms. If there was no other problem, you were young and the duration was short, I would say suck a sweetie! Worst answer given for this was Penicillin- which was mis-spelt. A dreadful suggestion but I am embarrassed to say a few doctors would actually do this!!!!!!!! If you smoke STOP! If this problem persists see your GP.

A long, slow glass of water. You have to drink it slowly, or you'll end up with hiccups as well - which will mean drinking MORE water!!!

Ice cold drink, or something else of ice.
Ice cream, ice pop.
They also help with cold and flu coughs, by killing bacteria in the throat. ^_^
