A monopoly controls an industry as "ma bell" did before the breakup into the "baby bells" you could not buy phone service anywhere else. Everything I buy at Walmart is available elsewhere, but I shop there for PRICE.
I'll enjoy it while I can until the Union's manage to bully their way in, or create such a negative public image that creates the demise of a very good company. All the union sees is the loss of all those union dues to add to union coffers.
Walmart really is a good employer, there have been problems, which all companies have, and they address them immediately. No business could stand up to the union generated negative ad campaign going on currently. The Union can make the big three auto companies look bad...not to many high school grad's make that much money or have as many benefits as autoworkers.

Not a monopoly.

Target, Cosco, BJ's, Trader Joe's, Aldi's all compete with them.

They do put other retailers out of business, but it is possible to compete against them successfully. But the Internet is bigger than Walmart and the Internet puts some small retailers out of business.

Hey dabigdogg - sad but true, they are a monopoly, but I am torn by even letting that come out of my mouth! I love their low prices - if not for them, I would have to buy off brand items - so in that regard they are really a blessing to a lot of people besides myself. One the other hand, I hope things get better for thier employees...I heard that they don't make a whole lot....and that the benefits could be better....walmart itself is truly an oxymoron, for lack of a better term.

It is a survival of the fittest, it is a jungle out there in the retail marketing, and as I have mentioned it is the survival of the fittest, and just like the wild animals fight, Walmart destroys its competitors with its price margin.

I agree, and it is sad. I live in a small town so there is not a lot of choice. Wal-mart is close by and is convenient. When I get the chance I like to shop at Meijer's which is about a 1/2 hour away.

walmart sucks .. pay a little bit more and shop at target or krohl's ... besides the fact that the quality of walmart products are less than inferior

... and already you can see the answers you're getting .. people agreeing but admitting they'e shopping at walmart regularly to save money ... don't complain if you're going to sponsor cheap corporate commerce that underpays its employees, utitlizes illegal alien employment and gives you less than you're paying for ... the price is cheap and the quality is even cheaper but some pinheads think it makes more sense to buy it 3x a year than 1x every 2 years... go figure

oh yeah they are!! Target is way better than walmart, better products, cleaner store. target is currently one of the only stores standing up the Walmart Invasion. K-Mart went outts businees due to Walmart. So did ShopCo, all good department store that should have stayed.

this is very true.

i hate it, & it's very sad... it honestly hurts the economy in the big picture.

if you're at the top, there's no where to go but down. every monopoly goes down sometime... eventually, walmart will too.

but i still shop there (who doesn't?), because it's cheaper & easy. they're everywhere... & have everything.

YES YES YES!!!! That is their goal and they support foreign armies, like, in China cuz that's where they get all their crap (from slave-driven labor!)! Don't shop at Wally World cuz you are only putting this country's economy down!!!
