Im in the 8th grade right now, and today i got an application for the IB program, which is a college preperatory program all through high school. And since i really wanna go to college, im seriously thinking about doing it. But there is only one school in the entire coumnty which has the IB program, and it's a different school than im zoned for next year. Yeah, i get a free variance and a bus ride if im in IB, but ill be leaving most of my friends. One other plus is that my best friend, who doesnt go to my middle school, might be in IB too, and then I get to see him everyday. But ill be leaving the rest of my friends behind while they go to the school they are zoned for. What do you thnk i should do?Should i not go for the IB program and just go through regular high school? Will it down my chances of getting into a REALLY good college? Orshould i take the chance and be in IB?

I would go take the IB program. I am graduating in May and the college prep program really helps. No matter what school you go to there will always be a great high school experience. You will meet new friends, enjoy different types of social events and since I'm sure that the zones are close you will still run into your old friends at parties, clubs, malls...etc. The program will benefit you so much in the future. What I realized is that half the friends I knew in junior high, we still associate but are not as close. I believe true friends will always stay in contact and that by taking the IB program you will get a good education, get a fresh start and meet lots of wonderful people. And if worst comes to worst, which I doubt, you dislike the school after maybe a year, you can always switch back to your old one... Good Luck!!!

Take the chance and go for the program if that is what you like. You are going to be meeting new friends for a very long time. You want to make yourself as valuable as you can when getting into a career so that is priority over friends.

I would suggest (if you like it) to go to college then construction. You can get payed as low as $33 an hour. That would help pay off your student lones. But go to college first! And you can see your friends on weekends! Would you rather have money or friends you probably won't see after college.

when you go to high school yu are going to notice that none of your friends are going to be the same.. i moved from la to ny and obviously i got new friends but none of my old friends stuck together anyways.. worry about college not friends.. because when college recruiters look at your transcript they are not going to see that you left your friends.. in fact i think its better for you to get into a new school where you can start over and make friends that are more like youand be getting ready for college.. remember that your friends are not worth your entire future
