First: isolate "3x" on one side --- subtract "2" from both sides...

3x + 2 - 2 = 14 - 2

3x = 12

Sec: isolate "x" on one side --- divide both terms by "12"....

3x/3 = 12/3

x = 4

3x+2=14 (Step 1)

-You subtract 2 from the +2 and 14 and this will be your outcome below

*3x=12

Step 2: 3x/3=12/3 (Divide the 3x by 3. You must divide the 12 or number on the other side of the equal sign with the same number you divided the 3x or Algebraic expression. When dividing two of the same numbers into each other *3x/3*, they will cancel out. The outcome is shown below)

*x=4* or *1x=4 if you prefer*

(However, Algebra books and teachers would usually recommend if you keep the 1 out as either way it won't affect the problem)

Step 3: 3x4+2=14 (Then just substitute the 4 in for the x and that's your answer)

-Answer: 3x4+2=14

(/)=division

Question:3x+2=14
When you have this kind of an equation you have to isolate the variable which is x.
3x=14-2
The 2 is transfered to the next side so you have to change the sign to a negative.
3x=12
When trying to find x. It is an mulitiplication so you do the opposite divide.
3/3x=12/3
x=4

Hope this is really explaining it.

Using MDAS backwards, you would subtract 2 from both sides, and then divide both sides by 3, and you should get (x=4)
So it would look like this:

3x+2=14
-2 -2

3x = 12
/3 /3

x = 4
