Dude, what if your wife's first name was Crystal and your last name is Glass.... stuff like that that would embarrase your wife. But so many women now a days are independant with their last name. It shows a lot of disrespect from you not wanting to marry someone because of that. You're marring the girl, not the name.

Jack.......let me say that when and if I do get married, I will be keeping my last name as well as taking on his. There is nothing wrong with that.....this is not 1900 any longer....and if a woman decides to keep her last name, then so be it....no biggie.

Why on earth would a woman not want to take her husband's last name?

What a shallow thing to say. An individual's commitment to his/her partner isn't about last names - the name does not make the relationship.
Would you take your potential wife's last name and hyphenate? Hmm...

I hyphenated my name with my husbands. My name is mine, and I should be the one who decides, if it goes, stays or is hyphenated.
There's a reason for everything...

"So wait a minute, your name is going to be Julia Gulia?"
Those of you who don't remember the Wedding Singer won't see the humor in that quote.
