Nuclear power (fission) generates electric power without putting greenhouse gasses like CO2 into the atmosphere. That means that they don't contribute to global warming the way coal and oil fired power plants do.There is no nuclear fusion currently in use in anything other than bombs and warheads.

Fusion power plants don't exist, so, ... oh well.

In nature, nuclear fusion powers the sun. Without that, we wouldn't exist. We're a second-generation solar system. The heavier elements we see on Earth were made in a supernova or hypernova -- fusion again.

In nature, fission has kept the Earth warm and fluid. Without it, the Earth would have cooled, and we wouldn't have volcanoes. Funny, huh? We'd have fewer mutations, so evolution might not have led to... us!

Okay. Let's talk about nuclear power plants. Yes, they use nuclear fission to make heat, to turn turbines, to make electricity. It's a much cleaner way of making electricity than by burning coal. And, bonus, nuclear power plants do not emit greenhouse gases!

Fission is actually something we are unable to do. It requires too much energy.

As for fusion, it is a safe power source and does not create airborne pollution. Its very efficient. A condition being that the reactor must be safely built and well run. The CANDU reactors in Canada are a great success example and are extremely safe. They produce clean, low waste energy. Visit the website in sources for info on the CANDU.
