Most notebooks have at least a 1 year service plan. Contact the manufacturer to see if they will repair it.
Try also removing the battery and using only the AC adapter to see if possibly the battery is the cause.

Pull the battery and the power supply. Next hold down the power key for 30 seconds. After that plug in your power supply only and leave the battery out. Lightly press the power button and see if you get any lights or power. If you don't get any lights or power, call the support group of the manufacturer of the laptop i.e. Dell, Compaq, Sony. If you purchased the laptop new last September, it is still under the manufacturer's warranty. They will replace the faulty part at no charge.

First, make sure that the laptop is plugged into the wall. Go into the BIOS (either DEL key or F2 for most computers), check to see if the laptop recognizes all of the hardware on your system (CD, hardrives, and the sort). If it does see all of the hardware then it might be overheating and may need a good dusting. Another route to try is getting a Boot Disk, such as Win PE or the Ultimate Boot Disk (google these terms), see if the computer can boot to the GUI (Graphics User Interface) environment. If it can boot to a Windows desktop, check windows explorer to see if all your drives are listed. If you can see the harddrives, CDs, ect., then run a disk check on C: drive. Set the Disk Check to fix the errors found. If you cannot boot to a GUI then there is a hardware failure and you are out a laptop and might as well take it apart and hang the pieces on your wall.

It sounds like the battery may not be charging. Several of the laptop batteries in the time you bought yours were re-called. If you bought this in September, then you still have the standard 1 year warranty, I would contact where you bought it and go from there.

Do you have the power cord where the transformer (a box) is built partway through the cord? Usually there is a plug on one side (the wire is not permanently connected). Make sure it is fully in, otherwise you won't get power to your laptop.
Outlet <--plug-------wire-------plug-->transformer--------wire---->laptop
Sometimes the plug is on the laptop end of things

Try taking the battery off and putting it back on. If that doesn't work, I would suggest taking it back to the store where you bought it to see if they can fix it or calling the brand hot-line. Good luck in getting your laptop working.

I think you should try pressing the power button for a longer duration, and try pressing it several times. It could be a problem with the power button itself.

Try removing the battery and then inserting it back in to the laptop.
