Some buildings dont even have a 13th floor because it is considered extremely unlucky... it just goes from 12 to 14.
It has nothing to do with the buildings though.... 13 is just considered as the most unlucky number for many different reasons:
-12 is considered the perfect number (mathmatically and in mythology)... since 13 is right after, it is considered unlucky
-Judas was the 13th guest at the Last Supper
I cant remember all of the reasons but there are very VERY many... just search 13 superstitions and you should find them.

It's just bound up in the general myth of the number 13 being unlucky. Some say it originated with the Last Supper, there being 13 people there (Jesus and the Twelve). There is a superstition that says if 13 people are at a dinner, one will die within the year.
In buildings, sometimes they will just skip having a 13th floor and go from 12 to 14, but this isn't usual.

The number 13 has been considered unlucky for many, many years. Many hotels, apartment blocks, and office buildings were built "without" a 13th floor for this reason. Similarly, room, apartment, and office numbers avoided the use of 13. You probably know about Friday the 13th being an unlucky day. All of this is pure superstition, of course, and newer buildings now ignore it and use 13 just like any other number. Bakers in the past often gave out 13 rolls when a customer bought and paid for only 12 - this was called a "baker's dozen", and was certainly lucky for the shopper!

20 years ago, I worked at the Bond Court Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio. There was not a 13th floor.
Some buildings such as One Canada Square in Canary Wharf (the tallest building in the UK) number their floors so as to skip the thirteenth floor entirely, jumping from the 12th floor to the 14th floor in order to avoid distressing triskaidekaphobics, or the building will have 12th floor and floor 12a or 12b instead. Many hotel/casino megaresorts in Las Vegas also lack a 13th floor. This is often applied to home or hotel room numbers as well, and the same is also true of rows in airplanes.

The 13th apostle was Judas, and he betrayed Jesus, so the Christian myth is the number 13 is unlucky. They figured no one would want to live on an unlucky floor, so most buildings don't have one. The Chinese believe the unlucky number is 4, so most of their buildings don't have a fourth floor.

I think the WTC was built without a 13th floor. I don't know what the superstition is, but it must be big!

Anything to do with 13 is bad luck. I lived in a building with a large Chinese population in it and they all hated the 4th floor. Seems that 4 is a death number to them...
