In grass, there are different cells. One type of cell, which is only found in plants, is called chloroplast. inside a chloroplast, there is a liquid called chlorophyll. The chloroplasts absorb the energy from the sun to support the plant and help it grow. Basically, the chloroplasts are what makes the grass, and other plants, the color green.

Chlorophyll, with a magnesium nitrogen ring that absorbs light in blue and red making it look green. Light that is not used, green, is reflected away. The red and blue are used to create sugar from sunlight.

If plants were very efficient they would be black.

it is chlorophyll which only happens when light is present,(this is when the production of sugars take place) that is why grass turns yellow when anything is covering it, and deprives it of light.
But if you want to turn your grass a darker colour of green apply iron (Fe)
