Ainge and Dj in the backcourt. Ainge was a scrappy defender and above average shooter. Dj is worthy of the HOF, a superb defender and clutch shooter. Mchale was unstoppable on offense and also a superb defender. Bird is Bird. Parish was a highly underrated 7 foot center.

Throw in Bill Walton, healthy and productive, as your six man and Wedman (a former all star) and Jerry "lights out" Schting and you got yourself an unbelievable team that lost ONE home game all year that year.

The 1980's was also a decade that WAS NOT full of crappy expansion teams like the 90's Bulls got to play day in day out.

Agree or disagree?

I couldn't have said it better myself. The 85-86 Boston Celtics were the greatest single-season team in history.

You have the greatest front court in history (Bird, McHale, Parish...all Hall of Famers), the greatest back-up center in history ( Hall of Famer Bill Walton), a solid backcourt in Ainge and DJ ( its an absolute disgrace why he isn't in the HOF), and a deep bench.

Hell, their SECOND TEAM would beat 90% of the teams in the 90's and today!!

And yes, there were only 23 teams when the Celtics won their title in 86. There were 29 when the 72-10 Bulls won in 1996. That's over 25% more teams!

The 86 Celtics would have mopped the floor with ANY of the 1990's Bulls teams. No question about it.

Smitty named some great teams from the past. The only one I think MIGHT have given this Celtic team trouble would be the 1966-67 Philly team with the Chamberlain/Jackson/Walker/Cunningham frontcourt. But I still think the Celtics would have been too strong up-front.

The only Laker team that would have come close would have been the 1986-87 team. But an injured Celtic team took them to 6 games, which would have been 7, had it not been for Magic's "baby hook".

Can you imagine what a "healthy" Celtic team WITH Len Bias would have done?!?

Without a doubt, the 95-96 Bulls. They went 72-10!!! Think about that. 25 out of the 30 NBA Teams have at least 10 losses this season already, and only one team in the East, where the Bulls are, have less than 10 losses and that's the 9 loss Pistons. One loss for them and we'd be talking 10 losses for every team in the East and we're 2 months from the All Star Break. How are the 95-96 Bulls not the best??

Personally, I'd disagree because I'm a Bulls fan. And it's hard to be unbiased.

By record alone, the best NBA team ever was the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls. They had the best single season record ever in NBA history. 72-10. Add to the mix a guy named Michael Jordan, who is arguably the greatest player ever to play the game, and I rest my case your honor.

However... here are some interesting links I found that have some information that may help you make your own decision... There are lots of stats at this site... It lists some of the top teams in NBA history, their strengths. Their weaknesses. Very informative site.

Also, as much as I hate to admit it... the 2nd site is about an NBA panel of experts who have chosen the 1985-1986 Boston Celtics as a better team than the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls. They put the two teams head to head, and have researched which team had a better scoring percentage, most rebounds, most assists... etc. The Celtics led in every category. Check it out!

I totally agree with everything you said. The Bulls were a team that dominated during a watered down NBA. I mean they got to play the friggin GRIZZLIES. C'mon now...
