How can we deny two people who love each other, and who happen to be of the same sex, the right to at least have a civil union with basic rights (you fanatics can keep the term marriage) when there are literally billboards announcing $250 divorces? If your argument is sanctity of marriage, what about our divorce rate and screwed up straight relationships?

The definition of a marriage according to the Bible cannot be easily changed...however, the definition of a marriage in the eyes of the law can be changed. Most people fail to realize this.

Also it is very expensive and difficult to go out make arrangements the ensure that a significant other is taken care of when you die without the "all in one" deal that a marriage offers. This is what same-sex couples want. They don't really care about being accepted by Christians or any other religious groups, and quite frankly, the opinions of these groups don't matter.

If it makes people sleep better at night for heterosexuals to marry and homosexuals to have a civil union, so be it. Just have the decency to offer them a "package deal" that ensures their significant other and any of their children (biological or adopted) are taken care of just in case a spouse leaves the relationship or dies.

It sickens some people to see people of different racial backgrounds marry, but we don't outlaw that. So why should homosexuals be denied their civil unions because it "disgusts" certain people? There is a strong hint of prejudice within such judgments.

I see nothing wrong with two people getting married that love each other no matter what sex they are. I will tell you though what makes you think gays and lesbians (if they were to get married) continue to stay in a marriage without it being screwed up and getting a divorce as well? The only thing that would trouble me about gay people getting married is that some gay couples will get out of hand and do wierd stuff at thier wedding. I am not saying all but there are some bizarre things that will happen. If it is just making a commitment and having a celebration without it being dirty then I see nothing wrong with it.

Marriage as defined in USA and Biblically speaking is the
union of a man and a woman. This doesn' t stop 2 people
from joining together their assets, living in the same househole
or even having sex. From a legal issue 2 people of the same
sex is not a marriage. In order to have same sex marriage we
would have to change the definition of marriage. This would
open the doors to other arrangements, for eg. bigamy, polygamy
and all other sorts. Do we really want to do this? IF the issue
is that of a religious one, no other form of marriage is accepted
according to the new testament. In the old testament there
were men married to numerous women. That too was changed.

i believe if two people love each other and are the same sex, that they should be allowed to marry and have the same rights as the heterosexual couple. don't believe it matters at all as long as they are in love, and care about each other. as they are people too and they aren't much different than anyone else. they want the same things out of life, as others do.

I don't know when equal rights in this country came to mean only equal for you and me and those we agree with. I don't know why it is any of my business to try to legislate morality/sexual preferences/other people's right to pursue happiness. I don't get it. I think the same rules and same laws need to apply to all adults and not single out any one group. I don't know what someone on one side of this issue can say to someone on the opposing sider to get them to change their minds, but calling them names probably won't help bolster support for gay marriage. I get your point and I agree with it. I am interested in hearing what others think and am glad you asked the question.
