Well Someone Put A Neutral Sfety Switch In Their Cherokee And Their Backup Lights Started Working!!

i own a shop,and it may be the switch bad ,and on these its all built in together ,but i have sen them go out before ,there not hard to replace though and not that expensive either ,but id say if you have checked the frond wires for them and their good that's about all that's left ,good luck i hope this help,s.

First of all you need a test light or a multimeter, check for voltage to the back up lights at the socket. If no voltage, there is a switch that screws into the left side of the transmission right above the oil pan, check for voltage there, if you have voltage the switch is bad. You can jumper the connectors at the harness & your lights will work if the wiring from the switch to the rear sockets are good. The neutral safety switch will only not allow it to start if it is not in park or neutral. Nothing to do do with backup lights. I have seen those switches fail quite often

yup , could also be a bad ground
