What do corporations look for when theyre looking into a management position of some sort? I am curious as to what criteria they are looking for, such as degree, work experience, etc.

A lot depends on the corporation but here's a couple of rough guidelines:

Education - depends on the job and work history. Generally, you would be expected to be higher in one or both than the people you manage up to the point where the workers have post-grad technical degrees. MBAs are good, but not essential, for higher-level management jobs.

Work history- Hiring someone in, they will usually want to see a history of managing others.

Others - Do you know the work/industry? Are you professional? Do you communicate well?

In any management position an employer would be looking for a high level of leadership, organization and communication skills. With those skills, they would also be looking for integrity, maturity and enthusiasm for the work. A true manager is a leader. Someone who can motivate their teams to not be satisfied with the status quo and "the way we have always done it" and to do that while being respectful and developing their staff to grow and think more independently. Real leaders aren't afraid when their staff grows and can make more decisions without direct supervision, they relish it.
