this is dumb. you hear tons of stories about people hospitalized for tounge piercing in the wrong place, and you STiLL want to do it yourself ?! why risk all the complications of hitting a vein, when you can just pay a $20 - $40 to get it pierced PROFESSiONALLY, that way, you can be 98% sure you`ll won`t get problems (the other 2% is if you take care of it correctly) i don`t know how far back you should stick the needle, but i`m telling you, the only reason why you didn`t get infected from doing it before is because of pure luck. maybe this time you won`t be so lucky, you`ll end up in the hospital -__- i bet then, you`d wish you had made a better decision.

Don't self pierce, especially your tongue, there are large veins in that area and you could hit one and bleed a lot and even die!

Don't self pierce unless you have the right equipment and know what you're doing. Why don't you just get it done by a professional?

I know I sound like a spoil sport but it's for your own safety, I'm all for piercings so long as they are done correctly :)

good god, how dumb can a person be. only thing you should have pierced at home is your ear lobes. what happens if you do it wrong and hit a vein or split you tongue and end up with a snake tongue, i've seen it or you get a terrible infection??? if you must get it done go to someone who has a lot of experience in doing it. Its your tongue not your ear.

Well if you've done it once before, you already know that it is the most dangerous piercing and you could die from it. I have my tongue pierced and it's not wise to do it yourself.
All I can suggest is to make sure you DO NOT hit your vein. Other than that, how far forward or backward you do it is up to you.

I really think that's a bad idea love. If you put it in wrong, you could bleed to death. If you really wanna get it done, cough up the money and get someone who knows what they're doing to pierce your tongue.

I deff would not do it at your house.
Me and my friends all thought it would be cool to do ourselves, over a year ago and we are all still paying for it.
For the ones that didnt get infected, it hurt and they couldnt eat, and they were too scared about getting infected. One friend that didnt get infected right away later found out that she tore some cartilage and had to have it removed, so she couldnt talk for quite a while.
The ones that did get infected--- It was disgusting, It got very infected and we were all put on antibiotics for it, and had to have shots just to be safe. we didnt have the proper cleaning solutions for it and even a professional said every 4 out of 5 people get infections when doing their tounge by themselves. And everyones tounge is different for the most part, so where the proper place to put it for them might not be right for you. I wouldnt risk it, it was not worth it

Negative effects include:

* pain
* post-placement swelling
* prolonged bleeding
* gum injury
* permanent numbness
* loss of taste
* oral hygiene problems

In addition, piercing has been identified by the National Institutes of Health as a possible vehicle for transmission of hepatitis B, C, D and G, and HIV.

DON'T do that you could hit a meager blood vessel it's very dangerous plus you don't talk the same when you have you're tongue pierced it sounds weird.

My theory is you get what you pay for, you not gonna pay for it, its going to be a crappy piercing.... Please, there are professionals out there who are trained in doing the job properly!!! You could end up with a huge infection in you mouth, it amazes me that people want to run that risk.... This is why doctors give the piercing industry a bad wrap, they see idiots like you all the time!

STOP!!!!!

DO NOT do it yourself. That is very dangerous. There is a major nerve/vein in your tongue you risk hitting if not done professionally. If you are gonna do something like that, spend the $20-35 to have it done safely. The proper(longer) barbell is usually included in that fee. I urge to to NOT DO IT YOURSELF.

I have had mine done for a year(today) now-----so not against having it done---but I URGE you to have it DONE PROFESSIONALLY!!!!!!!
