1) Stick with basics. You don't need a TV or internet. You just need the basics TO SURVIVE.
2) Leave a little room for play. In other words, it's okay to leave $25/month for a movie and dinner. Have fun at some point.
3) Get a second job and get some more income.
4) Garage sale/ebay off unneeded items.

Haven't got the expertise down yet, but I find if I prioritize what is really important and what is a whimsical purchase helps. As do:

Buy in bulk (if financially possible) I was in the habit of buying Kerastase for something like $30 for one bottle of shampoo! And I was a dental office manager! I know wait until the large bottles of Redken AllSoft goes on sale. Just take your favorite hair product and compare ingredients. It may take a while. Look everywhere. Find what you can at places like Target. It took three years, but I just recently stopped buying the $33 Diorshow mascara and am now using Loreal HIP High Intensity Pigments mascara. Found a great eyeshadow compact for $2.00 at some teenager clothing store!! The same thing would have been $50-$60 at Dior or Chanel. And if there seems to be no replacement, wait at least a week before purchasing it, do you already have something similar at home? I do still use my MAC paints, lipglass, Solano hairdryer (in my defense was making more and saved up) and of course Chi Straightener. Some things just have no equal. Short answer long, try as many of the lower end cosmetics as possible, some are made from same manufacturers, and when buying big ticket items ($40 Eye-lash curler) make sure it's worth it!

I've found that living sensibly usually means answering the question, "Do I need this, or do I want it?" when considering whether to buy something. If it is a need ... food, necessary clothing, shelter, then I buy it. If it is a want ... jewelry, pillows for the couch, new curtains, I don't buy it. Every dollar I don't spend can be put in a savings account or toward something I need. I rarely eat out and almost always brown bag my lunch. Once in a while ... usually once a month, I reward myself with something nice but inexpensive. The real key, I think, is to actually build a budget and then stick to it.

Been doing it for years! Make sure you have a written budget that includes everything. That way, you can really see where your money is going. And, you can also see areas that you could cut spending so that you can re-route that extra $$ somewhere else (savings, debt reduction, etc.).

I use an Excel worksheet. If you want a copy, just email me! I'm more than happy to help!

Buy store brand items instead of name brand.
Shop at Save a lot or Dollar General
Use coupons when you have them
Don't get anything on credit, only cash
Get things on sale....even your groceries
Shop at Good Will...they do have nice stuff...at least here they do
Keep your computer for entertainment....it's cheaper than going out and spending more money
Cook your own food, don't eat out alot....maybe once a month
If they have something you like on sale...get alot...then you don't have to buy it forever...that really saves
Well, that's all I can think of for now...Good Luck!

do not try to buy what is in if it costs a lot. if you can find it on sale or if you have a buy one get one free coupon or something like that. Get clothes that you like that do not cost a lot as well instead of the expensive clothes that everyone else is wearing

I do. Get the less expensive version of some stuff you already use, and do things like getting your hair or nails done 1/2 as often as you already do. If you can do these things yourself, even better.
