if almost killing yourself isn't enough to make you stop, you need to talk to your doctor.

You really really need some help and unfortunately proper treatment for mental health is really hard to gethold of so you've got to keep on trying and trying. I'm struggling with that at the moment but feel like I could be getting there. Unfortunately it seems to take doing drastic things before anyone really notices but after taking such a big overdose people should be getting the message, It takes so much time to find the right people to help you but they are out there and you can't give up trying to find them. Once you've found the right people then you can work on giving up the self harm. It's such a bad way of coping (I've done it enough times myself) but sometimes its the only way. You will get there, I'm thinking of you xxx

i am 24 and i have been SH since 11 as well. i really can't tell you how to stop. I have managed to stop for about 6 months but i started again and to be honest I think sh will always be part of my life. Try going to your doctor, there are lots of help groups around. Don't bother with Internet sites they just make you want to sh even more. good luck xx

well, this can relate to a deep depression.
first point of call is to talk to someone, doctor, friend or anyone you feel you can trust.
there will most likely be a root cause maybe something that happened years ago, a death in the family for instance...if you could isolate this then that would help.
there is treatment out there but it is up to you to get it.
sorry i cannot help more, but you really need expert help, do not worry about asking for help either, it does not mean you are weak or that anything 'is your fault', but believe me, if you leave it then it will only get worse.
hope you find the strength needed to get through it.
good luck.

Self-injury may be an indicator of depression and / or other psychological problems. Therapy and skills training can be very useful for those who self-injure. The therapy module used will vary depending on the person's diagnosis and their individual needs.
DBT, or Dialectical behavioral therapy can be very successful for those with a personality disorder, and could potentially be used for those with other mental illnesses who exhibit self-injurious behavior. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is generally used to assist those with axis 1 diagnoses, such as depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Diagnosis and treatment of the causes is thought by many to be the best approach to self-injury; but in some cases, particularly in clients with a personality disorder, this is not very effective, which is why more clinicians are starting to take a DBT approach in order to reduce the behavior itself. A person who is injuring themselves may be advised to use coping skills, such as journaling or taking a walk, when they have the urge to harm themselves. They may also be told to avoid having the objects they use to harm themselves within easy reach. People who rely on habitual self-injury are sometimes psychiatrically hospitalised, based on their stability, and their ability and especially their willingness to get help. [30]

You need to talk to a doctor. This is not going to stop without treatment. Also, think of something that you really love to do and if you go more than 2 weeks with out harming yourself treat yourself, but still GET TREATMENT.
