Sure. A lot of them do work in the summer. I'm a teacher, but I choose to take off the summer. Why do you think I became a teacher?

Subsidized?? LOL, Teachers need the summer in order to prevent career burnout. Teaching is a highly skilled profession that requires constant training and upgrading of skills, constant college courses and consummate people skills.

Many Teachers are Professionals and skilled people who met certain criteria and have passed a rigorous licensure process.

Most if not all teachers are Specialist and have to teach a standard curriculum, teach basic life skills, buy deodorant, supplies, be a parent and a mental health/behavior adjustment counselor.

Subtract expenses for supplies and tally the incomes of each job description and the wage is likel to exceed $100k per year, instead we make between $27-50,000 per year. And this does not include the cost of Graduate college course that many states are requiring.

OK, back to your question..... I am a teacher and hold licensure in a craft. Free market means competition, Get use to it, be better at what you do and learn to compete.

Teachers are not under contract in the off times. Most contracts run Aug - June. How teachers choose to spend their time is up to them. Not to mention that in general, teaching is an underpaid profession and many teachers, like myself, have to take second (and sometimes third) jobs in order to supplement our income and provide for our families. I teach because it is my passion, but I also must have enough to survive. Where do you get the idea that teacher are "often unskilled?" Please clarify.
