Depends on the model. It also depends on the software.
I would google how do I callibrate my "HP" printer cartridge and you will find the answer. (substitute the HP for your brand)

Just change it. The top opens up to replace it. Wipe off the silver parts inside and the glass to prevent dark lines. calibration does not pertain to the ink cartridge.

open printer properties look around for maintenance or something like that n u should see align or calibrate printer heads

You need to go to the manufacturer website for the software or find the installation disk and manual that came with your printer.

You may have to push a combination of buttons. For example on mine I have to press the "cancel" & "OK" buttons for three seconds.
Manufactures are different. Go to your printer manufactures web site & see what their combination is.

put the cartridge in your printer, close it, and it will do it automatically.
