Yep, It's more comfortable to do the RIGHT WAY - never really considered it wrong or right - just the way that was a good fit for my husband and I.

not all female's like to be dominated. when i hold hands it's not so much about who's dominant and submissive, it's just a loving gesture. Usually, when i hold hands with this certain guy, our arms sort of intertwined so that our hands are sideways, with my hand closest to his side and his hand closest to my side. It's comfortable and it shows that we both care about the other.
No offense, but the "right" way that you discribed makes me get a suffocating feeling. It feels stiff and unpleasant to me. I don't like to feel like someone has control over me like that. It just shows that they are overbearing and sometimes even overprotective.
Basically my point is this: There is no "wrong" way to hold hands. How you hold hands with someone is a symbol of your relationship with them, and men are NOT dominant in all relationships. No 2 relationships are exactly the same so not everyone is going to show signs of affection the same way.

I get what you are saying and find that I follow this pattern unconsciously. But I was much better off not knowing about the dominant/submissive theory. Kinda ruins it for me. When you explain it to your girl, just say 'that's just how it is'.

Lions have manes so that when we go out we don't need hands to show the male of the species.

I am the woman and I am dominant. So I hold hands the way I want.

Ouch.. That's not the right way, that's just stupid.
I don't even think about it when I hold hands.. and I'm certainly not submissive.

I prefer our fingers to be interlaced, and just let the hands fall naturally.
I never gave it much thought.

Says who? You? Why does the male have to be 'dominant'? If that is the worst thing you have to deal with in your life, feel incredibly lucky.
Get a life and grow up.
