There's a good chance you have viruses. Spyware can also create problems. At three years old, many computers start slowing down and freezing up more often, especially if you are trying to run multiple applications at once or applications that have system requirements exceeding your computer's specs. Take a look at the amount of RAM you have installed. Also, have you been getting error messages from Windows? And did this start happening all of a sudden or gradually over time? A local computer technician can take a look at what's going on there. Your other option is to get a new computer, but make sure you're prepared to look after it properly first. It's not worth the investment if you're going to let it become infected with viruses.

First of all, running a Windows-computer that is connected to the Internet without using an antivirus is like a suicide.. I recommend backing up your data/music/pictures/documents on another partition if you have more than one, or (even better) on CD's or DVD's and then format the Windows partition and reinstall it, WITH an antivirus (Try AVG free - because it's free, or purchase Kaspersky Internet Security - because it's the best). If you will reinstall Windows, i recommend creating two partitions: One 15 GB big for the Windows installation, and another as big as the rest of your hard drive, where you will store all data and music and pictures and everything else. That way, when you will need to reinstall windows again (and you will!) you won't have to back up or lose anything

Better still, if you don't use specific Windows applications, i suggest moving on to Linux. It's faster, does not freeze, and is much easier to use. It's always much easier to install an operating system from a cd/dvd and find out that you have an office system, media player, picture editor and many more programs installed from the first time, without having to buy and install any other programs for Windows. And it's all free. For a beginner, i would recommend Mandriva, as it's very easy to use, installs fast and works great. You can download a LiveCD from here http://qa.mandriva.com/torrent/2007/mandriva-one-2007-free-kde.torrent and boot it from the CD to see if you like it (keep in mind that it will run very slow from the CD, and it will be lightning fast when installed)..

If you like it, you can install it from that very same CD. just REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST.

Have fun, and enjoy your PC
