On some times when I dining out, I call the manager over to my table and say some thing nice about the food or service and surprise........ I generally get a free desert or other things...Am I the only one who knows this?

You are absolutely right. These people always hear complains and seldom anyone takes the trouble to tell them the good things. Also, if you do have a problem, try to voice your complain in a nice and constructive way, you will get free meal or at least something extra.

I think it does pay to be nice, even when you complain.

If I truly do enjoy the food/service I compliment and tip rather well I don't expect anything for free
When I get something wrong and complain then I expect to get something free

Not all restaurants do this. I have had this happen when my girls were toddlers. The manager came to our table to say how well manered they were. And yes, we did recieve a percent off our bill on our next visit.

I usually just puke on the table or put a bug in the salad, but thats a good way too.
