If D-Gale Brewer wants to force models to have a minimum BMI of 18.5, and be educated on nutrition. Should she have to have a BMI of no more than 25 and be educated on nutrition and maybe exercise.

I personally think thick not fat is more attractive then boney starving chicks but i don't think some fat politican should be going to war against skinny models telling them they are wrong like she knows something on the issue of healthy living.

The Democrats just want the fat welfare people to feel better about being fat and lazy instead of requiring diets for the fat asses on welfare!

Well, personally I am very against any sort of censoring, but I do see where she is coming from.

Young girls get their body image from the public perception. How many women in designer clothing that are perceived as "beautiful", "glamorous", and "successful" are over a size 6?

When you are showing these young girls an image that is genetically rare (being 5'10" and 120 lbs), and then telling them (by using ads, movies, television and the like) that if they aren't that type, then they are not beautiful, and they will not amount to anything, something is wrong. Many young girls are willing to do anything (even starve themselves or throw up what they eat) to achieve "perfection". It is an impressionable age for girls, and it is horrible to thrust that upon them when they are already battling to fit in.

I am not stating that all fashion models should be "fat", but I think that allowing them to portray a more realistic body image might be far better than making them all have to be drug addicts to achieve their "natural" body type (Kate Moss).

So do I feel sorry for the fashion industry? Not in the least. They brought it on themselves.

And by the way, Marilyn Monroe, one of the "sexiest" women in history, was a perfect size 14, which is the average size of women in this country today. So is there really something wrong with our society????

If Gale Brewer were as thin and attractive as most of the models, I'm sure that she wouldn't be calling for such a ban. She doesn't seem to be concerned about the rights of either naturally thin women or those who want to employ them as models. The real answer though is that any such government ban would not pass Consitutional muster. New York needs to spend more time on city services and perhaps promoting the construction of several 1500-foot skyscrapers at the WTC site.
