Here in Canada, we open our doors to strangers all the time (in some places we don't even lock our doors). Are we being stupid? Maybe, because we have crime here in Canada too.
However its kinda like we have made an unconcious collective choice not to let fear of criminals override our natural desire to want to be polite and to help others and it sounds like you unconciously made the same choice.
Just deliver the package and hope for the best. I don't think that you did anything wrong but I'm not a lawyer. However even a lawyer will figure out pretty quickly that all you were doing was trying to help someone.
Was it stupid? Maybe. But I applaud you anyway. There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity. But its more than that, if we let our fears overtake the better side of our human nature, what's left?

You probably shouldn't have accepted it. Go to the neighbors house and ask if they were expecting someone to deliver anything, if so, give them the package and forget about it. If not, call the police, tell them what happened, and have them come get the adapter.

No, you didn't do anything stupid. If you don't know your neighbors really well just be really polite when they come home and be like "So and So came to give you this but you weren't home and he didn't want to leave it on the doorstep so he asked me if I could bring it to you."
The neighbors will probably be happy that you held that for them. It might be a good way to show them that even though you don't know them that you want to be a nice neighbor.

I don't think so. Think about it, if you needed to deliver something for someone and they werent there but they really needed it you might go to their neighbors and ask them to give it to them. Maybe he didn't want to put it outside their door because he thought it could get ruined or someone could take it. Don't worry. You should be happy that you helped out someone. Your very generous to have taken it and offered to give it.

Hmm...I would call the authorities and have them deliver it:) There shouldn't be a problem. Next time, don't answer the door! People are nuts and would do anything to rob someone. Its scary but true.

when opening a door, always ask (with door shut) who is it, and if the voice isnt familier, and if they dont say anything, DONT OPEN IT. But of course if its some1 u know, open it. lso if u have a window in the door, just look thoruogh it, and see if u know them, or lok (if possible) through a window, and see if u know them. Just be carefull next time.

Call the police, and tell them of your concerns...tell them you don't want to be in the middle of something, and ask them what to do...and from now on, NEVER OPEN THE DOOR TO A STRANGER...he could have pushed his way in and assaulted you...never, never do that again...for any one...
