Has anyone had a teacher with a tattoo. Because I have one on my ankle that doesn't seem to go away with lasering, and I am conerned about having to cover it with another one and then being isolated in the teaching field.

I am a FABULOUS teacher with 3 (2 visible) tattoos. I teach 5th grade and am otherwise (clean cut) and fit the mold. My tattoos are part of who I am and I have always been open about their meaning to me. I am not naive and know that tattoos make a "first impression" that is not always positive. I did keep my tattoos covered for the first month of school my first year in the district, but now in my 11th year, teachers and kids know me well. Also, I live in the midwest and MANY MANY teachers have visible tattoos.

A tattoo does not make or break a teacher. In fact a tattoo could be a cultural thing. It could make for an easy conversation that could slide into a cultural diversity discussion. Is your tattoo of something important to you? If so, you could use it as a community builder and ask the students to tell something about themselves. Just remember that how and what you teach is more important that how you decorate your body.

I don't think it's a big deal to have a tattoo, as long as you aren't trying to flaunt it. There is a teacher at the school I work at who has some tattoos. She is a younger teacher who flirts with the boys all of the time (DANGEROUS!!) and she has a tattoo that she is always making totally obvious! This past summer she got another one on her toe, so she wore flip flops every day until the 3rd day that we had snow on the ground...guess now she needs to cover up the frostbite...its not as cool as her tattoo! So basically, don't be like her and I don't think its a big deal

Well, some girls like them, & some don't. It all just depends on the girl. Personally, I LOVE tattoos & piercings on a guy. The only thing is, I don't think guys should get face tattoos. That's a big NO. And piercings? On the ears is fine, just stick with getting them pierced once, single piercing is ok. Lip or snake bite piercings are beyond attractive to me. I've seen guys with tongue piercings before. I don't think guys should get tongue piercings, but, if you can pull it off, then go for it. This us just my opinion though. Hope it helped(somehow).

As long as the tattoo isn't of anything offensive or inappropirate and it's not in a place that would cause a distraction (like your face, neck, etc.) I don't think it matters. I interned with a teacher who had a tattoo on the top of her foot. When she wore sandals, the kids would ask her about it. I wouldn't let it worry me too much! Just be a good teacher, that's what REALLY matters.

It's not usually an issue. If you have a bunch all over you, obviously that's going to play into whether you're hired. One tattoo on your ankle isn't a big deal. I've had teachers with tats and currently work with teachers with tats. Don't show any leg during your interviews and you should be fine. :)

It depends--a tattoo on your ankle is not really a big deal--who is going to see that?...if someone's whole body ws covered with tattoo's or all of their arms ec..it might create a sterotyped sort of impression--of a rebel, etc...It might not necessarily be true--but yes--it could create that impression to many--having a small tattoo on your ankle seems like no big deal--and actually we know of a physician who has tattoos all over his arms, etc...I think that if your work is really good, no one will care...but people would have to get to know you...I your cae, again, I think it's a non-issue...(actually--it depends what the tattoo is about/what it says--if there is anything vulgar or crude about the tattoo--I change my statement--then you'd have to lose it!)

i have a tattoo on my wrist....so, it shows all the time...or i can easily cover it with a watch. i have always taught kids over 16, but recently moved a little lower. i told the kids what my tattoo meant when they asked (it's appropriate) and i told them it was permanent, and i had to think about it a number of years before i made the decision. i explain it's something that will always be important to me, and it wasn't just a "fad" thing. but.....i don't make a big deal, i only explain when they ask, and i take about 30 sec. to do this.

if i had anyone younger than i do now...ie elementary, i would cover it. my kids are still old enough to understand what i say, take it home to their parents, and tell it ACURATELY.

I think it depends on what the tat is of. If you don't want the tat on you ankle to be seen, the blemish cover, or socks are for you.

People really do need to think carefully before they put something permanent like that on themselves. It may seem like a great idea when we are high on something and impulsive,, but 5 years later,, ugh.

My third grade teacher had a tattoo. I don't think it's really a big deal. Teacher's are people too. I think teacher's with noise piercings is a little bad my teacher had one and I thought it was stupid.
