When we went there (I'm originally from Allegan)...it took us about 6-7 hours. We got caught at the border for awhile (remember you'll now need your passport). Also, the speed limit in Canada is lower, so you have to drive S-L-O-W!!!
Too, I'd highly recommend staying on the Canadian side. From there you will get the best view of the falls and there is much more to do on that side...

It's approximately 400 miles, which would take you about 6 or 7 hours to get there.
