I'm not quite certain what is meant by power points, but I am going to assume that your TV was on when the electrician was working on the wiring/electricity and he turned the power off then back on at some point to cause a power surge which in turn likely blew a transformer module in the set.

If he warned you that he would be turning the power off, then all equipment (tv, computer etc) that is/can be affected by power spikes (sudden rises or jolts in the electrical current), should have been turned off prior. Of course, a reputable fellow will double check that you've done this. Someone who isn't really thinking, will assume you've done it. Sounds like this is what he did and no, you probably will not get him to own up to anything and certainly you won't get him to voluntarily have your set repaired or replaced.

However, if you have a good household insurance policy...you may be able to claim the tv under it and if it's worth the price, have it repaired, if not worth it, then replaced.

Check your home owners policy for coverage that relates to power spikes/outages. Our home policy has coverage for this but I don't know if ALL policies include such. As well I'm not in the UK so I can't say for certain that your policy would cover such cases.

Good luck with this, hope it works out for you.

I don't know what "power points" are. Usually a repairman should return the item repaired in working condition.
