I'm only a sophomore in college and I'm recently undecided about what I want my major to be. I'm really interested in sociology, psychology, history, etc. however I find it very demoralizing that people mock students who decide to be true to themselves and study these enlightening subjects. Why do people do this? Why do we have to place such a high value on business classes, etc. but can't at least respect those who decide to go in a different direction?

Get an education first, get job training second. College is for making you smarter, not for learning a trade.
