And there were no more PRIDE parades and public displays of drag queen insaneness.

I would be happier.

State policies could have refrained from abusing civil-unions for the past decades. The "marriage" question could be completely moot, and wiped clean off the political radar long ago.

The truth is this all is not even a "liberal" issue. At all.
There's a sizeable portion of the "conservative" voting block that is fascinated with gay people. They love it. And a fair majority of "conservative" politicians truly love having it as one of their very top issues.
It's not enough that there are PRIDE parades. No, "conservative" candidates want PRIDE parade stuff to be front and center in every campaign. It's even easier than calling oneself the protective War-leader.

Yes, I would be happier.
I would be happier if gay politics went back in the closet. The country certainly has more important things to attend to.

I'm a fiscal conservative, does that count? No?... O.K., um here I go anyway lol.

Um, no I have a few gay friends and keeping people in the closet is a hell of a lot worse than them being "out". I really wouldn't want to see them suffer like that.

Oh and the reason we don't have straight pride parades (This has come up in a few answers) is the same reason we don't have white pride parades. Whites and straights are basically on top of the social and economic ladder, they have in U.S. History, NEVER felt the sting of oppression. They are kings of all they oversee. Women and minorities do not get their fair share of the pie, nor do they even get the chance.

Pride parades exist because of oppression, when we finally treat everyone as true equals, pride parades will no longer be necessary and will disappear.

When gays are considered equal to straights in society eye's and the public at large, and are given the same rights and opportunites as straights, then you won't see anymore pride parades.

I know a number of gay people and none of them are drag queens.

I don't mind gays so much, it's the over the top stuff we can do without.

But, I just hope it never reaches a day in this country when a precher is arrested for speaking out against homosexuality. It's already a crime in Canada.

I really fear for the 1st Amendment if that takes place here.

I'm a Liberal and I find the pride parades to be an insult to my personal values. I find much of what goes on in gay society to be an assault on human decency.

But... I am for their right to do those things. And I am for my right to oppose the message they're sending.

I think a better question to pose to the conservative nation would be

"Why is it of anyone's concern who people are having sex with if it is between two consenting adults?"

I think that allowing the government into the bedroom is the beginning of the realization of 1984.

There is nothing wrong with being gay. Everyone should be proud of who they are and if they want a pride parade they should do that. Everybody deserves respect. I'm sorry that you don't agree with that.

I really don't care. Although why do gay people have pride parades? I really don't think that they are necessary. I don't mind gay people as long as they don't hit on me. My brother is gay. It does get kind of annoying when a gay person is really flamboyant.

Gay Pride parades are a reaction to oppression and bigotry.

Remember the Million Man March?

If you'd just led "gays" be "people", all these "PRIDE parades" you hate so much would disappear within a few years.

No we wouldn't be happier but I think they would be well advised to temper their displays somewhat. They have found a new power and they want to use it before they lose it, but I guess you can overdo anything.

If I have the right to drive around blasting Spirit of the Boogie and Caribbean Festival by Kool & the Gang, they have the right to wear dresses.
