I don't think that 'euthanasia' can be done 'humanely' on animals any more than it can be done 'humanely' on humans. Generally, though, once an animal is too old or too 'damaged' to be a 'good pet' it is euthanized, and they say it's 'for the animal's own good.' When people speak of euthanasia and humans being 'good' they also think it is for the 'person's own good' ... but I don't agree with either animal euthanasia or human euthanasia. I'm a Catholic, and I also don't believe that the 'death sentence' is a 'good punishment' for criminals, either ... if anything, I think they should be 'kept alive' for as long as humanly possible, in a 'cage' all by themselves forever ... because 'being alone' and in a confined space is the 'best punishment of all possible punishments.

Why has nothing more to do with politics and those who feel the need to decide that because their religion or belief system doesn't permit it they feel they can prevent others from making choices for themselves because their beliefs are 'right.
Anyone who has watched a love one suffer and die knows that there should be something more we can do for them. Hospice care has come a long way. But many patients continue to suffer because doctors and nurses are limited as to how much pain medication they can give because it might be lethal.
My Mother suffered greatly from cancer pain as she died this past year she had great care in the hospice BUT at the end her pain was NOT controlled, they could not give her anymore pain medication and she was begging for help. Her doctors hands were tied they had given her all they legally could. It was unbearable to have to watch her suffer.
When there is nothing more we can do for someone we should not leave them in pain because some activist or organization wants to decide for them that even if they are in suffering additional medication can not be given because it might slow her breathing and bring death. A death that was already inevitable.
I'm not saying we should make that decision for anyone, but when there is nothing more we can do and they are suffering. I think 2 doctors should have to agree as well as the person or someone in the family who has medical power of attorney. It should never be the choice of an insurance company.

Thats a tuff queston, and I don't like to see anyone or animal put to death, but I don't think you can compare animals to humans, and I really think a person with a life sentance is better to have that time and misery...

Cause how many humans would 'become disabled and worthy to die' when their mate finds someone new, or discovers the big life insurance, or just plain wants them gone? I mean an awful lot of people would be taking the ticket out that shouldn't be.

Who says we can't? We have people in prison for their 3rd rape which was their 10th assault - that we know about. I'd euthanize them in a second and not lose a wink of sleep over it.
