I am currently about 5 weeks pregnant and I am wondering what the best prenatal vitamins to take would be. Any help is greatly appreciated. This will be my first child!

If your OB/GYN hasn't advised you, which they should, then go to your pharmacist and ask them. However, your OB should be the one to make that determination since they have your health history. If they have told you to get any prenatal vitamin then ask the phamacist, as they are the next best thing to your doctor and sometimes can be even better. Wish you the best of luck!!

Best Otc Prenatal Vitamins

There's the obvious cost difference between the two. It cost more to dispense a prescription than an OTC. There is the legal difference between them, and that might not be all so apparent to most people. The prescription vitamins are more tightly regulated. The OTC vitamins are classified as supplements. Until recently there were no standards for their manufacture. The requirements are being phased in starting this summer. However, if you picked a good brand, you would be fine. I would recommend a USP certified OTC prenatal vitamin.

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and have not seen a doctor yet, but I go on Valentine's Day. My sister is a nurse and she says you have to have at least 400mcg of folic acid in a vitamin. I got prenatal vitamins at my local grocery store that was generic and it has 800 mcg of folic acid. You don't have to pay that much for them. I got 100 tablets for like $5. I got them at a Kroger. Good Luck!

Most prenatal vitamins are going to be similar. If you havent had an ob app yet - see a local pharmacist and see what he says. During your first app the doctor will have blood work done and if he feels you need another supplement he will let you know. Congrats!!

Precare prenatal vitamins. i take them and they are great, they are chewables and that have a good kind of fruity vitamin taste like the vitamins you'd take when you were a little kid. i have a problem with taking down big pills that taste HORRIBLE so my OBGYN suggested to me Precare. and i've taken them ever since and i switched when i was like 4 months pregnant.

Go to any pharmacy and they will have vitamins specially for pregnant women. In the UK they are called Pregnacare or Pregaday tablets, but if you are in the US i am sure they have the equivalent. They will contain all the vitamins necessary for preconception, pregnancy and throught breast feeding. The will contain folic acid which is vital to pregnant woman. Good luck.

There are a whole range of vitamins you can take during pregnancy and breastfeeding your baby, I think the best thing to do would be go to the chemist the brand I used throughout both of my pregnancies was called ELEVIT and it is apparently one of the best on the market and you do pay for it $ Good luck and all the best for your upcoming birth! Enjoy and nurture. xx
