they're not?

Well, im talking in a college campus...
Let's say one came in for a virus problem and his or her computer was working but was going slow just that...however, when the ppl who works for the school try to fix it, they broke it (pwr cant turn on anymore) and say it wasnt their fault b/c itz already in a road to have problems...
Anyhow, would they be responsible in any case like this? (i just want to ask this question in another ppl's point of view on how ya would see this)

Hahaha, they gave a lame argument. Fixing a virus shouldn't cause a computer to not be able to power on anymore. At most, you'd just have to wipe out the hard drive and reinstall everything.

Yes, they'd be liable.

Yes, they would have liability. They attempted to fix it, but a) didn't b) made it worse.

However, if there was no charge involved (i.e it was done as a favour to save you taking it to a shop) then it is pretty mean to try and claim. Also, there would be no contract in that case.

It depends a lot on the details, but yes, the university would probably have liability. You should consult an attorney.
