I read a lot of political and religious commentary.

I have noticed that a lot of the arguments presented by people claiming to be; tolerant, accepting, open minded, liberal, etc, often use stereotypes in their commentary. "Christians think this way" or "Republicans do things this way" or "Conservatives are like this".

Other times they spread stereotypes like "the party of corruption" or similar derogatory stereotypes.

I can sort of understand this from the the Democratic party in general which supported slavery and segregation for hundreds of years, but I am reading and hearing a lot more stereotypical comments from a lot of different groups that claim tolerance.

Why is that? How can someone claim to be tolerant or open minded and then make intolerant, derogatory stereotypical comments?

Is it hypocritical to claim to be tolerant and support civil rights while at the same time spreading derogatory stereotypical comments? If not, why not?

You are absolutely correct.
But the obvious is that you are reading "political and religious commentary" which is inherently politically and religiously biased and yet it is still trying to appeal to you on as many levels as possible.
When I see adjectives in a headline, I wont read the article because the adjectives tell me that is slanted and I want unbiased, factual news.

Don't think that's generally the case.

Still, some times you can't discuss things very far without the occasional stereotype.

Most open minded people are actually open minded. However lots of people CLAIM to be open minded that are not.

In reading your question I understand you are a Republican and I am wondering about the comment about the Democratic party ,it seems your tolerance of them is at a low.I dont think I see the difference.Do you consider yourself open minded or very tolerant?

I not in any respect heard a conservative call a Hispanic or black American stupid, yet I hear quite a number of liberals putting forward that conservatives call Hispanics or black individuals stupid. Why is that? I not in any respect hear Christians calling atheists names, yet atheists are continuously so dissatisfied that they call Christians hateful names, hmm, again, why is that? listed less than are some liberals and their "actual rates": a million) "(Obama’s) a fabulous man or woman, he’s very articulate it really is what’s been used antagonistic to him, yet he couldn’t promote watermelons if it, you gave him the state infantrymen to flag down the site visitors." -- Dan extremely 2) "many years in the past, (Barack Obama) ought to were getting us espresso." -- invoice Clinton to Ted Kennedy 3) “you may not flow to a 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts except you've a mild Indian accent.” -- Joe Biden 4) "We were given to do something about those Asians coming in and starting up up businesses and dirty shops. they ought to flow." -- Marion Barry

Remember this.....NOT ALL THE SLAVES WERE " LABOUR HOSTAGES " BELOW THE MASON/DIXON LINE ...U.S.GRANT OWNED SLAVES . I think that today.....poor people are tired of being poor, hungry people are tired of being hungry , sick folks are tired of no ( or crummy) health care, and the working class is tired of low wages and being in debt , while politicians get super - generous pay hikes at the expense of those working low-paying jobs . Because of these complaints , many people tend to lash out at whoever is Not struggling in these troubled times.

Isn't it hypocritcal of YOU to be asking this kind of question when you make statements such as " I can understand this kind of thing coming from the Deomcratic party in general." ?

This sounds like the same, boring, repetitive comments/statements that come from the Republican party in general.
