There's an idiot circulating himself on here who is a very vocal racist - he is offensive and realy makes me sick. Short of ignoring him, how should us decent people handle him?

Ridicule.
Mel Brooks, the famous actor, director, producer always uses riducule (and other forms of humor) to expose his targets for what they really are.
For example, when Mel Brooks wanted to show what an idiot Hitler was, he used ridicule and humor to make his point. That worked better than any other approach. You can't admire someone when they are exposed as a fool.

Ignoring him is the best you can do. There will always be racists - and like it or not, such speech is protected by the first amendment. Just ignore him and move on. If you engage him by replying to his comments, you just feed his anger.

We're dealing with kooks on here who may or may not be worth spending our energy on. If you were asking about how to deal with a racist in person, I would work up an answer. But cowardly folks hiding on the Internet probably aren't worth the trouble.

He can only be heard if you listen, so ignoring him is the best thing to do.
You can report the heck out of him when he posts, but other than that, if we ignore him, he will go away to find something more exciting to do. He says that crap to get people upset; that is how he is getting his jollies. So if no one gets upset, then he will have to find something else to do, right???

Just like any other child trying to get attention, they enjoy acting out. Giving them feedback, negative or positive response, is still feedback. If they are not getting attention, they may get tired of wasting their energy "jumping up and down" and may go play nicely in their corner. Just a thought.

I personally don't believe in ignoring racism, let him know you think it is offensive and you would appreciate it if he would take his racial remarks elsewhere. By saying nothing aren't you really just condoning it?

actualy ignore him is the best thing, he is too stupid as are all racists to change just because you or I are offended. Also he know he is getting to you if you respond and he wants that so why give it to him,your better than he is.
