Absolutely! One thing you might want to try is tracking your Basal temperature to make sure you're actually ovulating. Go to CVS or Walgreens and buy a basal thermometer. That's a special thermometer designed to help you track your temperature when you first wake up every morning. If you track your temperature every day for a few months, you'll be able to tell whether or not you're ovulating. (Your temperature goes up after you ovulate, and comes back down at the beginning of the next cycle) You'll find instructions on the inside of the package. If you do end up going to the doctor, one of the first things they'll ask for is this information, so it's a good idea to start it now. It's simple to do, and interesting also.

Irregular periods could indicate another "problem"... So- when you say "irregular" what do you mean? Once a few months or sometimes once a month and at others once every other week?

Give me an idea.

OK- I mean that an irregular can indicate that you have poly-cystic ovaries or something equally non-serious (I am not trying to frighten you just show you that if your periods are not regular that COULD be the reason why you fail to get pregnant).

Now- here is a little known fact about periods:

NOT every period is a fertile period.

While the body goes through the motion of preparing the womb to receive a fertalised egg in that it builds up the thickened lining (which we expel during a period) the ovaries do not actually ripen an egg EVERY month/period!

This means that you could be having afertile periods once in a while and that, when that egg is expected and you have intercourse to get pregnant there is nothing to GET pregnant with.

:-)

The way it is meant to work, roughly, is that the two ovaries take turns preparing for ovulation and send an egg down their respective fallopian tube every other month.

If one (or both) ovary is poly-cystic or has just not got an egg ready that month, then you cannot GET pregnant that month.

:-(

So- if your periods are really irregular I'd recommend you go and see a doctor.

And as for getting pregnant- the doctor will test you once a month just to check if you are having fertile or afertile periods for a period so that you can know what the ratio is. Ie how "fertile" you are.

And the BEST time to have intercourse in order to conceive is roughly 12 to 16 days after your last period begin. Ovulation on a normal cycle can fall, quite precisely, on the 14th day and the woman can conceive for a few days after this.

:-)

Good luck!

I have VERY irregular periods so after a year of unsuccessful trying i saw a specialist and was placed on clomid orginally for about a 12 month period in total. This didnt work so i went on to do Ovulation Induction which is basically injections (the same used when doing IVF) that you you administer yourself. In conjuction your blood hormone levels are monitored closely and you have internal ultrasounds to see how many egg producing follicles are growing. When ovulation is ready to occur (assuming there are only 1 or 2 ripe follicles) a further injection is administered and then you either go off and have sex or in the case of IUI your partners sperm is injected into you.

Having said all that none of this worked for me although i do know a couple of people that had fertility issues that each did ovulation induction or IUI and each now have a set of twins and another child each. I was told i would have to try IVF next and then just fell pregnant naturally.

The funny thing is time and again i read answers on here and find out that i am not the only one that when given the option of IVF etc sort of just said i wasnt ready and then fell pregnant anyway. I think that a lot of it must be psychological - when you put the stress of not falling pregnant out of your mind - it happens.

I am 37 weeks on tuesday - life is about to change. Mind you this is after 4 years of "trying to concieve".

Good luck - if you have been trying for more than a year it is recommended that you see a specialist to resolve any obvious fertility issues you may have.

Put simply in answer to your question - the only thing i think i did was not really worry about TTC and then it just happened. It is a boy by the way and he will be here so soon its scary.........now i just have to get through the labour and sleepless nights (although they have already started).

Best of luck

Dont smoke and drink either.

Are you asking why your not pregnant or if it's possible? Or both?
I have irregular periods and I"ve gotten pregnant 3 times..so yes you can. If you have unprotected sex, yes you will somewhere down the line get pregnant, of course you will. Unless something is medically wrong.

It is possible, depending upon the reason your periods are irregular. However, many people trying to use the rhythm method of birth control have found themselves pregnant due to irregular periods.

Still, it is also possible that your periods are irregular due to a physical condition that would make your getting pregnant less likely. To know for sure, you should talk to your gynecologist.

I'm not a doctor, but I don't think irregular periods have anything to do with it. I have had irregualr periods since I started having periods...I'm now pregnant. If you just recently stopped taking birth control, that could have something to do with it. Maybe you and your partner should see a doctor to see if either of you are infertile or less fertile and to maybe go about fixing it. Good Luck!
