Now, there is a huge dispute over who owns title to the land, and who should be there, etc.

What is known, is that whatever IS there (which, now, after so much time and attempts, they don't even know exactly where to look anymore...) it will take a LOT of $$ to even try it...

Also, it is thought to be that everytime a new pit is dug, it is flooded once the pit is below sea level. The reasoning (to date) is cause whoever buried the treasure, dug channels that allow the water around the island to channel through the area. So, every attempt is flooded out...

nope the pits dug to find the treasure have filled up with water and all attempts to empty it have failed. some pretty creepy stuff have been found in these"money" pits like a human hand!
