I was HUGE, overdue and a gestational diabetic and I was going in once a week for fetal non stress tests.

It isn't realy about you...they are testing to see how the baby is doing.

The length of the test is determined by your baby's activity.

They are looking for three large movements within 30 minutes.

My baby kicked like Pele every friggin 4 to 5 minutes so my stress tests only took about 20 minutes.

It's totally easy, you go to the hospital, and lay on a bed, they strap fetal doppler monitors onto your belly with giant strips of velcro. They take your vitals and then leave you laying there and monitor your baby's movement from the nurses station. When they have the info they need...they come in, take all the crap off of you and send you on your way.

Super easy.

Good luck mama and congratulations!

Oh and I used to get the pains in the groin all the time too...kinda like being kicked in the "business" from the inside out...i don't miss that..lol. But it's nothing to worry about. I walked around for three weeks, four centimeters dialated, taking stress tests every week, with no baby drop and no mucus plug and baby still didn't come until they broke my water...He was 10 pounds when he was born...I'd hate to think how big he woulda been if we'd just let him take his sweet time!!!

The stress test I was given with my 1st baby at 42 weeks had me laid in a hospital bed for 6 hours with 2 belts around my belly monitoring movements and any possible contractions. It was accompanied by 3 ultrasounds (beginning, middle and end of the testing).

Because I was 2 weeks over-due, the size of the baby (9lbs 6.6ozs.), and the lower levels of movements from the baby, I was induced. I had my daughter 3 days later.

I'm not sure what else was going on, mine was preformed between 2AM and 8AM and I tried to sleep as much as possible. It was a very relaxed test. Perhaps it gets its name from testing the child(ren)'s level of stress??

Generally a stress test is used to determine heart abnormalities. However, these are questions you should be asking your OB or their nurse. If they won't answer your questions, then I would highly recommend finding a new OB/GYN immediately. I understand you are due anytime, but they are ordering this test for some reason, which I don't understand either and I used to work for a group of cardiologist (Heart Specialists) and I don't recall us ever doing a stress test on a pregnant lady that was this far along. Ask questions and get answers.

A Stress test is when they hook your belly up to a monitor, and just watch your contractions and heart rate. The doctor, or nurse, will put this thing on your belly and it will vibrate, then they just watch changes in the babys heart rate and contractions.

My girlfreind had one like two weeks ago. Our babys heart rate went crazy!?! She was due Jan.30th. But hopefully she goes into labor before her induction date!

a stress test determins whether or not you are having some un-painful contractions. they put 2 straps on your tummy with to monitors, one to monitor the contractions and one to monitor the heart beat. i had it done ever since x-mas day when i was admited to the 6th floor [maternity floor] and got it every doctor visit, also i got ultrasounds every visit to monitor the weight of my baby daughter, cause they were afraid she was to tiny, but now im due feb. 11th and could go any day now. but the stress test is to see if your contracting at all.. at this point, if your not, they will probably induce your labor

As a senior citizen, I take very much of delight in telling you that I replied all the questions properly--no dishonest, no searching ahead, no lie! i extremely loved it, because i imagine that many of the former coots that i understand is actual not waiting to do besides as I. i will hardly watch for an chance to provide them the attempt (i'm assuming that you gained't ideas if I borrow it.) This is just to make sure your baby is okay. They hook you up to fetal monitors, take your blood pressure and see if you are having contractions.
